Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an exciting collaborative event where student teams innovate and code solutions to real-world problems in a limited time. Participants can attend workshops, network with industry professionals, receive mentorship, and enjoy free food and swag while bringing their ideas to life!
Who can attend?
We welcome students of all genders, majors, and backgrounds who are 18 and older. HackViolet is a female-empowerment event, but not a female (trans and cis)-only event, and there is absolutely no experience necessary!
How much does it cost?
Nothing! Registration is free, and we provide all swag, scheduled meals, workshops, and even prizes at no cost. All you need to participate is a computer!
Do I need to know how to code?
No! We accept participants of all experience levels. Plus, we’ll have mentors available for guidance and workshops to help you learn!
Do I need a team?
If you plan to submit your project for a prize, you must be in a team of 2-4 people. If you don’t have a team yet, no worries! We'll hold team formation sessions at the start of the event to help you find teammates. Once our Discord server is set up, you'll be able to connect with others there as well!
How do project submissions and prizes work?
Participants can start their projects as soon as the hackathon begins, with submissions made via our DevPost page. Judges will evaluate each project, and top teams will win exciting prizes! Stay tuned for more details.
Do you provide travel reimbursements or housing?
Currently, we are not able to offer travel reimbursements or housing for participants.
Can I judge or mentor?
Yes! We are actively seeking volunteers with experience in hackathons and coding. If you're interested in joining us, please click the 'Judge' or 'Mentor' buttons at the top of this page for more information and to sign up.
